👣 How to run a Traceroute using our Traceroute tool [free tools]

Whether you're a networking engineer, or are just looking to debug your website's network, a Traceroute test can often uncover potential performance issues with your website that you weren't aware of - but, can be complex to run.

That's why, on our Domain Monitoring platform, we've put together a Traceroute test tool that allows you to do just that.

In this article, I'm going to tell you more about our free Traceroute test tool and how on earth you run one!

Are you ready?

Let's dive straight in...

❓ What on earth is a Traceroute anyway?

If you've never heard of a Traceroute, then you've come to the right place.

Let me explain...

A Traceroute, also known as a Tracert is a function that simply traces the path from one network to another network, and it allows you to diagnose the source of a bunch of different problems on a network.

If you've ever experienced slow website performance, or are just finding that navigating to your website's domain name is slow, then it could be related to a possible issue that can only be discovered through running a Tracert.

How?

Because running a Tracert test allows you to identify packet loss and at what point in the traced route the packet was lossed.

That's why it's so powerful.

But there are many tools out there that allow you to perform this test, so how do you know you're choosing the right one?

❓ Choosing a Tracert test tool

When it comes to choosing a tool that will allow you to diagnose your website's network, you want reliability, and data that's presented to you in a clean, understandable format.

Many utilities that you can run on your website server's OS are pretty poorly designed, and they're not designed to look great - this is great for the experienced networking person, but maybe you want one that's more visually pleasing to look at.

At the Domain Monitor, we're focussed on building the all-in-one platform that allows you to not only monitor your websites and domains, but to also diagnose issues with them.

That's why we've put together a series of free tools that allows you to diagnose your website, and domain.
